Ombudsman Offices as a Governance Mechanism in the Public Sector
Keywords:
Ombudsman office, Governance, Transparency, Accountability, Public administration, Participatory democracyAbstract
This article seeks to establish a correlation between the Ombudsman office, as a space for interaction between the State and other social actors, and the principles of democratic governance, with particular emphasis on the constitutional principles governing Public Administration, as well as on the dimensions of transparency, accountability (administrative accountability), and performance (performance accountability).
These principles should permeate public management processes in order to improve the quality of public services provided to citizens, who are no longer merely recipients of State action, but also participants and co-authors of public policies and governmental actions.
