This article aims to compile and provide historical, legal, and practical support regarding the role of ombuds offices within the Brazilian democratic context, highlighting the scope of this important mechanism of public participation and the promotion of citizenship. It also presents ombuds offices as an effective instrument for administrative management and decision-making by high-level authorities. This reflection is particularly relevant in an increasingly participatory and engaged society, in which citizens assume the role of co-creators of solutions and drivers of outcomes within the process of social participation, demanding greater transparency in the exercise of power and improvements in the provision of public services.
